3.3
Catechizing with Symbols, Rituals, and Stories
It begins at home. The use of symbols and rituals for holidays and family events convey stories about who we are and what we cherish. Liturgical catechesis is an opportunity for making a potent connection between what families routinely do as part of these celebrations and how faith is passed on in our parish communities. Come and find out how to make this connection as a way to strengthen and enhance your catechetical plans and programs.
3.4
Preparing for Sacraments the Rite Way
The National Directory for Catechesis presents general principles for sacramental catechesis. This session will emphasize two of these principles: "catechesis focuses primarily on the symbols, rituals and prayers contained in the rite for each sacrament and enables the believer to reflect on the meaning of the sacrament received through mystagogia following the celebration."
3.5
Stories of Prayer/Prayer as Story
How does the presence of God manifest itself in everyday life? How do stories of everyday life reveal the presence of God? Fr. Patrick Hannon, author of the popular new book Running into the Arms of God: Stories of Prayer/Prayer as Story will explore storytelling as a window between the divine and the human. Hannon will present prayer as a cry of humans for God to "Find Us" in the messiness and joy of the human condition.
3.6
The Quality of Mercy – Explored through the Arts
What is mercy? The collaboration of an award-winning author and artist explores the quality through the lives of specific women like Dorothy Day, Thea Bowman and Teresa of Avila, who embody the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. The slides of the art and the commentary will show the richness that unfolds when two disciplines come together. For participants, mercy will take on new meaning and a human face.
